ERP selection is no longer just about modules, workflows, integrations, and reporting. Organizations must now understand the architectural differences between AI-powered and AI-native ERP systems. While copilots, AI agents, OCR, predictive analytics, and conversational interfaces may create similar user experiences, what happens underneath can be very different. These architectural choices can affect transactional integrity, governance, scalability, implementation complexity, and long-term maintainability. As vendors race to position their platforms around AI, buyers need to look beyond feature lists and marketing claims. The real question is not simply how much AI an ERP offers, but how AI fits into the underlying architecture and whether that architecture can support the organization’s operational requirements over the long term.
